Puppy Raisers

I have much admiration for those dedicated folk who carry out the important task of puppy raising guide dog pups. They take six week old pups from the breeding kennels into their homes. Over the following year, they will exercise, educate and socialize the pups in loving environments.

Queeny had the love and attention of John and Merryn Probert. She was the 13th puppy the Proberts had accepted from Guide Dogs Victoria. An involvement that started back in 1995 at John’s instigation. Merryn has taken much enjoyment from their association with GDV, and now is working with Ginger her 16th puppy.

We like to keep contact with Merryn, which led to a recent visit to her home. On arrival Queeny knew where she was and showed great excitement to return to her early days at Donvale. She bounded into the house and straight to the toybox! Merryn’s home is puppy heaven, with spacious gardens surrounding a lovely dwelling.

Unfortunately, John passed away in June 2010. Merryn continues to work with the puppies and is thankful for the companionship they offer.

Queeny and I remain ever grateful for the contribution the Proberts played in her pathway to becoming my best mate and guide.
