MOVING TO QUEENSLAND

The next chapter in our life is unfolding. On April 30th, we will board a one way flight to Queensland. Our destination is the property of a good friend, Pedro, his American wife, Andi, and young son, Braden.

Queeny and I will live independently in the original house, on this hilltop location. Pedro has built a new home for his family. We will be located 4 kms from the township of Calliope and 24 kms from the coastal city of Gladstone. The move offers us a rural lifestyle and an escape from big city traffic and crowds. The climate will be much more temperate than Melbourne’s cold winters too.

I have missed the warmth of the tropics and peace of country life. My recent trip to Yeppoon brought me close to friends of the past and a desire to be in their vicinity once again. Life is too short to knock back the opportunity for a fresh start and contented lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of Australia’s second largest city.

To resettle, we will be travelling 1900 kms north from Melbourne. Lots of soul searching before I decided this move was the right one. I achieved much in my four and a half years in Melbourne. I will miss family, the vision impaired community, and my cycling friends, but feel sure new horizons will open new doors. I envisage no barriers, just fresh challenges.

Now the task of sorting, packing, finalizing commitments here and putting in place services in Calliope. I will return to lawn bowls, fishing and the occasional game of golf. I will continue growing vegetables and an outdoor lifestyle. I hope to find a front rider for my trusty tandem cycle? It’s all very positive and exciting as I look about me and realize the big change ahead.

I had a feeling when we returned from our recent trip to Queensland. Upon entering our home again, Queeny looked at me and seemed to say, “Has all that fun ended?”

“No Queeny, it is about to begin in earnest!”
